It is not possible to behave with integrity and exert personal authority if you do not hold others to account for their behaviour. Strange then, that we have so many ways of not holding people properly to account!

How many of them describe you?

  1. You delay confrontations hoping the person will come right on their own
  2. You use sarcasm or humour to make your point indirectly
  3. You hold long conversations that never quite get to the real issue
  4. Your personal style creates defensiveness and others do not speak up
  5. You allow emotion to take over and you end up in heated arguments
  6. You give instructions before you find out the real reasons for non performance
  7. You accept reassurances that things will change, without tying people down to specific actions and deadlines
  8. You do not follow up to make sure things happen as promised
