Trust is essential if business is to flow smoothly

It's important that employees trust their leaders. It's best when there is trust between suppliers and their clients. The happiest and most productive teams are those in which people trust their colleagues. 

We talk a great deal about trust but practice it rather less often. If you want to create a culture of trust, the best place to start is here, now and with yourself.

 

·       Employ people who are competent or can become competent. You cannot trust those who are not.

·       Encourage people to speak openly to you, even when you do not like or agree with what they say.

·       Speak openly about your own views and feelings. Let people know where they stand.

·       Give praise for good performance. It’s the right thing to do!

·       Give honest feedback for poor performance.

·       Keep your promises so people know they can rely on you.

·       Make decisions that are fair and are seen to be fair.

You have to offer trust before you can expect to be trusted. If you do not have a culture of trust around you, first look to yourself.
