How would it be if you could help people around you feel good, important, appreciated and respected?These are some of the words most consistently used in feedback on a listening exercise in Straight Talk training. It is a simple exercise, involving little more than having people listen intently to each other talk for a few minutes.It got me thinking that listening should be the gift we all give to each other over the coming holidays. Think of the people with whom you fake; nodding and smiling while you plan your escape: or those whom you interrupt before they have a chance to voice even half a thought: and all the times you hold court, hog conversations and pontificate endlessly.Listen intently and respectfully to the people around you this December and enjoy their appreciation of one of the best gifts you’ll ever give.
